Mit Charles Gounods Faust feiert am 8. Februar 2026 die dritte Neuproduktion der Spielzeit 2025/26 im Nationaltheater Premiere.
Der alternde Gelehrte Faust schließt in seiner existenziellen Verzweiflung einen Pakt mit dem Teufel: Méphistophélès verspricht ihm ewige Jugend und Liebe im Tausch gegen seine Seele. Faust verliebt sich in die junge Marguerite, verlässt sie jedoch bald. In ihrer Verzweiflung tötet sie das gemeinsame Kind, verfällt dem Wahnsinn, und geht dennoch als moralisch Überlegene aus der Begegnung mit Faust hervor.
In der Inszenierung von Lotte de Beer und unter der Musikalischen Leitung von Nathalie Stutzmann, die ihr Hausdebüt am Pult des Bayerischen Staatsorchesters gibt, entfaltet sich ein zeitloses Werk über Moral, Verantwortung und den Konflikt zwischen Gut und Böse. Die Titelpartien werden gesungen von Jonathan Tetelman (Le docteur Faust), Kyle Ketelsen (Méphistophélès) und Olga Kulchynska (Marguerite).

In his existential despair, the ageing scholar Faust makes a pact with the devil: Méphistophélès promises him eternal youth and love in exchange for his soul. Faust falls in love with the young Marguerite, but soon leaves her. In her despair, she kills their child, descends into madness, and yet emerges from her encounter with Faust as morally superior.
In Lotte de Beer's production, conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann, who makes her house debut at the podium of the Bayerische Staatsorchester, a timeless work about morality, responsibility and the conflict between good and evil unfolds. The title roles are sung by Jonathan Tetelman (Le docteur Faust), Kyle Ketelsen (Méphistophélès) and Olga Kulchynska (Marguerite).
